Just a piece of advice: If would you think that the whisk-shaped attachment on your immersion blender could be used in place of an electric beater, you would be wrong. And you would end up with a kitchen covered in butter shrapnel.

Despite this and other setbacks, I successfully baked a cake for Marc’s birthday.

I’m not much of a pastry chef, but you really can’t go wrong with chocolate, butter, and sugar.
