I love to read. Lately, I’ve been re-reading some of my favorites, due to a combination laziness and the fact that our new bookshelves put them at eye level. I tore through Prep, She’s Come Undone, and Smashed before I got myself a Brooklyn library card.1 With that library card, I recently checked out The Answer Is Always Yes. (I’m always grabbed by a bright and shiny cover.) Here is the review I posted on Goodreads:
The plot is engrossing – from the beginning, you know something bad is going to happen, and the sense of imminent dread compels you to keep turning the pages. (Of course, the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll might contribute to the sordid fascination that kept me reading.)
The story-within-a-story technique is interesting, but it seriously disrupted my enjoyment of the novel. (And note that this is coming from a girl who counts Special Topics in Calamity Physics among her favorite books – I have nothing but appreciation for the footnote!)
1 I have a New York public library card, but Brooklyn has its own library system. Now I have both!
