Brooklyn Bastille Day

Yesterday was Bastille Day!

Brooklyn Bastille Day 2010

Okay, you’re right, Bastille Day was actually Wednesday – but, here in Brooklyn, we celebrated it on Sunday with a block party on Smith Street. Two blocks of Smith Street were covered in sand for make-shift petanque courts, and there was a less French skateboarding event going on at one end of the street. Bar Tabac set up outdoors selling merguez and frites sandwiches and Lillet, and other restaurants and bars on Smith Street set up stands to sell sangria, crepes, and more sangria.

even dogs got to enjoy frites!

Of course one can’t celebrate Bastille Day on Smith Street without taking a picture with your head in the guillotine! Beware: it’s a little more disconcerting than you might imagine.

oh no! in the guillotine

We even had a semi-celebrity sighting of Alex of Real Housewives of NYC fame.
